SuperFOIL SF60 - 100mm Multi-Foil Insulation

With 53 layers of interlaced material, with a tested R Value of 4.643

Superfoil SF60 has a total coverage 15m2 with a total thickness of 64mm and a total of 36 layersThe UK’s highest performing multi-layer foil insulation can be used to reach levels 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

SF60 has air barrier properties and can control air movement for further energy efficiencies. Its radiant reflective properties, reflecting unwanted heat from solar gain in summer and enhancing insulation in winter.

In situ energy assessment indicates that multilayer foils have benefits over traditional (non reflective) insulation. SuperFOIL SF60 maximises roof and wall insulation within an efficient amount of space.

  • Use to reach CSH levels 3 to 6

  • Ideal for new build or retrofit

  • Fits over or under rafter

  • Made from 40% recycled materials

  • LABC Registered System Approval

  • BBA Test Report No. 49974THA

  • In situ energy assessment indicates that multilayer foils have benefits over traditional (non reflective) insulation. SuperFOIL SF60 is easier to handle, install, cut, and seal than any other form of building insulation, and lasts over 50 years with minimal loss of performance caused by dust, drafts, pests or osmosis.

LABC Registered System Approval No. RD199-0512

SF60 now also has LABC Registered System approval which helps to streamline Building regulation applications in turn helping to save time and money!

Superfoil LABC CertificateComparative in-situ tests show 40mm multi-foil is equivalent to 140mm XPS rigid insulation or 275mm GMW

10 year guarantee with 50+ years life

European Technical Approval (ETA)

The EU has proposed under ECPD 1989 OJ L106/1 a new technical standard is to be developed that will incorporate the full performance of multi layer foils under real conditions including radiant reflective properties and air seal properties. This will ultimately result in a new CE or ETA classification.

SuperFOIL SF60 - Key Features

  • At 100mm thick, SF60 SuperFOIL is the highest performing multi-layer foil product in the UK & Europe.

  • SF60 also has air barrier properties and can control air movement for further energy efficiencies.

  • In situ energy assessment indicates that multilayer foils have benefits over traditional (non reflective) insulation.

  • Constructed from 53 layers of interlaced materials.

  • SF60 has a tested R value of 4.643

  • Is ideal for new build, extensions and conversions and can be easily retrofitted as it does not waste valuable and expensive space.

  • Can be used to create an airtight barrier, unlike conventional glass fibre. SF60 is airtight and has a life expectancy of 50+ years.

  • Reduces dependency on chemical foam products and their associated gas emissions

  • Is compatible with all insulations. To ‘Super Insulate’ existing glass fibre, add one layer of SF60 to maximise energy savings.

SuperFOIL SF60 - Technical Product Information

Calculated U Value to meet Building Regulations Part ‘L’

The U Value represents the thermal conductance of a given structure, for example an entire roof. The lower the U Value achieved – the better the level of insulation.
The R-value represents the thermal resistance of a given component within the structure, for example an insulation product.

The higher the R value rating – the better the product.

Provided are just a few examples of how different U Values can be achieved.

The manufacturers have many more on file and U Value calculations can be done for any specific type of construction.

U Values for roofs insulated under rafters

Insulating below the rafters is referred to as a ‘cold roof’ solution.

Current regulations require a U Value of 0.18W/m2K.

For an existing roof, upgraded as part of a retrofit project, the U Value requirement is 0.2, your options include ...

U Value 0.13 = SF60 + 25mm airspace + SF60

U Value 0.18 = SF60 + 35mm Insulated Plasterboard

U Value 0.18 = SF19 + 90mm HD Foam Board between

U Value 0.19 = SF60 + 25mm Polyurethane

U Value 0.20 = SF19 + SF19

Roofs insulated over rafters

Insulating above the rafters is referred to as a ‘warm roof’ solution.

Current regulations require a U Value of 0.18W/m2K.

For an existing roof, upgraded as part of a retrofit project, the U Value requirement is 0.2, and your options include ...

U Value 0.13 = SF60 + 25mm airspace + SF60

U Value 0.18 = SF60 + 35mm Insulated Plasterboard

Solid/Cavity Walls

Currently the U Value requirement for an new wall is 0.28W/m2K.

For an existing wall upgraded as part of a retrofit project, the U Value requirement is 0.3

U Value 0.25 = SF60 fixed to interior solid wall

U Value 0.26 = SF60 fixed to exterior solid wall

Timber walls

U Value 0.13 = SF60 + 25mm airspace + SF60

SuperFOIL SF60 - Product Installation Superfoil SF19 Tested R Value of 2.218, with Air seal And radiant barrier, and is an LABC Registered System

SF60 SuperFOIL is lightweight, flexible and free from harmful loose fibres and irritants, making it quick and easy to install with simple tools and without the need for specialized protective clothing or breathing apparatus.

Installing OVER rafters
  1. Roll out SF60 SuperFOIL over rafters.

  2. Staple at least every 500mm or as conditions dictate and cover joins with SuperFOIL tape, overlap by 75mm (Min 50mm, Max 100mm).

  3. At the eaves cut SuperFOIL around rafters and seal to cavity wall insulation or wall plate to create airtight envelope.

  4. Fix battens parallel with the rafters and apply breathable roof underlay according to manufacturers guidelines.

  5. Fix roofing battens and tiles according to manufactures guidelines.

Installing UNDER rafters
  1. Roll out SuperFOIL, starting along the top of the roof. Superfoil SF19 for horizontal or vertical fitting, with a 25mm air gap required, can be cut with knife or scissors

  2. Batten horizontally over rafters.

  3. Staple at least every 500mm or as conditions dictate and cover joins with SuperFOIL tape, overlap by 75mm (Min 50mm, Max 100mm)

  4. At the bottom of the roof pitch, staple the SF60 SuperFOIL directly onto the timber wall plate to create an airtight envelope.

  5. Fix battens across the rafters and ensure air gap between SuperFOIL and the plasterboard.

Installers please note:
  • Can be used in all types of roof structure.

  • Can be laid horizontally or vertically depending on the characteristics of the area to be insulated.

  • Can be cut with a craft knife or scissors.

  • Is attached with galvanised or stainless steel staples.

  • Contact with lead, copper and its alloys should be avoided.

  • Do not use to insulate a chimney flue.

  • When using around down-lighters a 30mm clear cavity must be provided. The use of fire rated fittings or fire hoods is recommended

  • Is most effective with a 25mm minimum air gap easily provided with battens.

  • Should be stored under cover and protected from the elements.

  • SuperFOIL tape (20m x 100mm) should be used on all overlaps and joints.

  • Be careful of the sun’s reflection when installing outside
