Celotex T-Break TB3000

Celotex TB3000 is a multi-purpose insulation board developed to provide simple solutions for overcoming localised thermal bridges.

With low emissivity foil facings, TB3000 is manufactured from rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) using a blend of blowing agents that have zero ozone depletion potential (zero ODP) and a low global warming impact.

The T-Break name stems from the design function of the range; which is to provide simple solutions to overcome localised thermal bridges. Celotex is unique in being able to offer boards as thin as 12 mm to the market for this purpose.

These products have similar characteristics to our Tuff-R range but with un-reinforced core foam.

These boards are available in the following thicknesses 12mm, 20mm, 25mm, and 30mm 35mm45mm, with a standard board size of 1200 x 2400 mm.

With Celotex TB3000 you are specifying an insulation board that ...

Is specifically designed to eliminate thermal bridges
Comes in thicknesses ranging from 12-45mm, making it the thinnest PIR insulation available
Is suitable for use in a number of applications including roof, wall and floor systems
Is easy to cut and shape
Includes low emissivity foil facings giving improved thermal insulation with cavity air spaces

Provides reliable long-term energy savings for buildings Applications Celotex TB3000 can be specified for use in a variety of applications including:

Pitched Roofs
Flat Roofs
Solid Masonry Walls
Timber Framed & Steel Framed systems
Floors

Technical Specification

Description

Please see the Celotex Tuff-R GA3000 page for details of the technical specifications of this thinner version of that product.

Where Celotex T-Break TB3000 should be used

This thinner version can be used in any rafter or joist application where there is the need to minimize Thermal Bridging and improve U-Values.

Thermal Bridging

To understand thermal bridging more thoroughly, this is where a (often structural) member with poorer thermal performance has a lower thermal resistance. This is a matter of degree and cannot be avoided just minimised. Therefore, there is a need to compensate by increasing the level of general insulation.

To gain a more formal understanding, we quote NBS Building Regulations ...

Surface condensation – thermal bridging

Thermal bridging occurs when the continuity of the building fabric is broken by the penetration of an element allowing a significantly higher heat loss than its surroundings.

These ‘bridges’ commonly occur around openings such as lintels, jambs and sills and at wall/roof junctions, wall/floor junctions and where internal walls penetrate the outer fabric.

Thermal bridges provide a ready passage of heat transfer to the outside air and allow a heat flow entirely disproportionate to their surface area resulting in excessive heat losses.

Condensation may occur on the inner surfaces that can damage the dwelling or threaten the health of the occupants.

To minimise the risk of condensation on any inner surface, cold bridging at a floor, wall, roof or other building element should be avoided.

Detailing should be in accordance with the recommendations in Section 8 of BS 5250: 2002 [ CIS link: BS 5250:2002. (the code of practice for control of condensation in buildings + AMD 16119).

Also, to maintain an adequate internal surface temperature and thus minimise the risk of surface condensation, it is recommended that the thermal transmittance (U-value) of any part and at any point of the external fabric does not exceed 1.2 W/m2K.

U-Value - a definition

U-value (or thermal transmittance co-efficient) is a measure of how much heat will pass through one square metre of a structure when the temperatures on either side of the structure differ by 1 degree Celsius (expressed in W/m2K)
