Fitting insulation - Gen-X Above Rafters

Step 1

Starting from the eaves. Gen-X is unrolled across the rafters.

Step 2

Fix to the rafters using 14mm min galvanised staples or nails, keeping Gen-X taut between each rafter.

Step 3

Permanentely fix Gen-X in place by nailing or screwing to 32 x 25mm min wooden counter battens down each rafter.

Step 4

Overlap next roll by at lease 50mm and seal this overlap with Gen-X Tape.

Step 5

Remove excess Gen-X using sharp scissors or knife. At gable ends, ridge and verges allow at least 50mm. This edge should be folded and stapled/nailed and the cut edge sealed with Aluminised Tape.

Step 6

A breathable roofing membrane should be installed on the counter battens and tilings battens attached perpendicular to rafters.

Step 7

Install roof tiles or slates.

Fitting instructions - Gen-X Below Rafters

Step 1

Starting from the ridge. Gen-X is unrolled across the rafters.

Step 2

Fix to the rafters using 14mm min galvanised staples or nails, keeping Gen-X taut between each rafter.

Step 3

Permanently fix Gen-X in place by nailing or screwing to 32 x 25mm min wooden battens parallel or perpendicular to the rafters. Ensure there is a 20mm min gap by fixing the batten on the 25mm face.

Step 4

Overlap next roll by at least 50mm and seal this overlap with Aluminised Tape.

Step 5

Remove excess Gen-X using sharp scissors or knife. At gable ends, ridge, purlins and wall plate allow at least 50mm. This edge should be folded and stapled/nailed and the cut edge sealed with Gen-X Tape.

Step 6

Fix plasterboard to the battens.

Fitting additional insulation

When Gen-X is used with other insulation materials, care should be taken that all air gaps are maintained in accordance with manufacturers instructions for an unventilated pitched roof.

Gen-X should be installed in accordance with BBA certificate no. 08/4543.
