Is a multi-purpose thermal and acoustic insulation slab specifically designed for installation
by friction fitting.
Application
For general thermal and acoustic insulation, use in applications such as internal partitions,
between timber and metal studs, rafters and floor joists.
Benefits
Friction fits between rafters, joists and studs
Provides excellent thermal and acoustic performance
Multiple application solution
ECOSE® Technology
Knauf Insulation mineral wool products benefit from a formaldehyde-free binder made from rapidly renewable bio-based materials instead of petroleum-based chemicals which is up to 70% less energy intensive.
The technology has been developed for Knauf Insulation's glass and rock mineral wool products, enhancing their environmental credentials without affecting the thermal,
acoustic or fire performance.
Insulation products made with ECOSE® Technology contain no dye or artificial colours, and the colour is completely natural.
Thermal Performance
Thermal Performance Earthwool® Flexible Slab 140mm has a thermal conductivity of 0.035 W/mK. Other thickness have a thermal conductivity of 0.037 W/mK.
Fire Performance
Earthwool® Flexible Slab is classified as Euroclass A1 to BS EN ISO 13501-1.

Standards
Earthwool® Flexible Slab is made from non-combustible, inorganic rock mineral wool,
defined as mineral wool in BS 3533:1981, manufactured in accordance with BSI Quality
Assurance Standard BS EN ISO 9001:2000 and Product Standard EN 13162.
Durability
Earthwool® Flexible Slab is odourless, non-hygroscopic, rot proof, does not sustain vermin and will not encourage the growth of fungi, mould or bacteria.
Environmental
Earthwool® Flexible Slab is free from CFCs, HCFCs and any other material with ozone depletion potential in its manufacture and content and represents no known threat to the environment.
Earthwool® Flexible Slab’s manufacture has a low impact on the environment and is classified as Zero ODP and Zero GWP.
Handling and Storage
Earthwool® Flexible Slab is easy to handle and install, being lightweight and easily cut to size.
Earthwool® Flexible Slab is supplied in weatherproof Supakube packaging, on non-returnable wooden pallets. This makes Earthwool® Flexible Slab very easy to unload and ideal for outside storage, which frees up internal stock space.
Earthwool® Flexible Slab should not be left permanently exposed to the elements.

Rockwool SoundPro Flexi
Rockwool Flex-i the ingenious volcanic rock slab with the patented flexi-edge that makes installation so easy.
The flexi-edge is unique and ensures a perfect fit every time, within floor joists, between rafters, metal and timber studs and metal and timber frame buildings.
Unlike rigid insulants, Rockwool Flexi will hold itself within the stud centres required, first time, every time.
Timber expands and contracts, Rockwool Flexi can be fitted between damp timber and will expand into the wider space created when the timber has dried out and shrunk back.
Other rigid or very flimsy insulants may fall out or be displaced, resulting in cold spots and poor acoustics.
Features & benefits
• unique ‘flexi’ edge offers accurate fit to all widths
• multi-application, fits all typical timber frame spacing
• excellent thermal, acoustic and fire properties
• easy to handle and install without gaps . no waste
Rockwool ‘Flexi’ is a unique insulation product with a
patented flexible edge along one side.
This unique Flexi edge is produced using patented technology
to ensure a perfect fit is maintained between the product and its
supporting framework. This ensures the insulation’s integrity.
Flexi is designed for a host of applications where perfect
fitting insulation is essential, in walls, partitions, floors and
roofs. The ‘Flexi’ edge allows the product to be tightly fitted between
timber and metal frames, without the need for cutting or waste.
Advantages
• patented ‘Flexi’ edge offers accurate fit to all widths
• will not slump if studs shrink
• multi-application, fits all typical metal and timber frame
spacing
• no waste
• excellent thermal, acoustic and fire properties
• easy to handle and install without gaps
Description, performance and properties
Rockwool SoundPro Flexi is a unique semi-rigid slab with a flexible
edge along one side.
The Flexi product is now available 1200 mm long × 600 mm wide
and 1200 mm long × 400 mm wide, to suit standard stud and floor joist
spacings.

Importance of fit
Ensuring a perfect insulation fit is essential to maintain
the thermal integrity of the wall. Typical softwood timber moisture
contents can range between 6% and 30%, dependant on exposure to the
elements. As a rule of thumb, timber will expand 1% for every 4% of
moisture content.
A 100 × 47 mm timber stud can therefore expand 3 × 2 mm (each
side) and then shrink back. If insulation is installed when timber has
high moisture content, it can result in a potential 6 mm vertical void
on each side.
When the timber dries out, Rockwool SoundPro Flexi will expand into
this void, ensuring thermal integrity, whilst rigid insulations may
leave a 6 mm gap, or even fall out.
The flexible long edge of the slab allows for the 600 mm wide
product to be flexed into the 590 mm space between metal studs or into
the 562 mm space between 38 mm width timber studs (see figs. 1
& 2). Where studs are spaced at 400 mm centres, 1200 mm × 400
mm wide Rockwool SoundPro Flexi should be used.
Performance & properties
Fire Classification Rockwool SoundPro Flexi achieves a reaction to
Fire classification of A1, as defined in EN13501-1.
Thermal Performance
Rockwool SoundPro Flexi has a thermal conductivity of 0.038 W/mK when
tested to EN13162. At 140 mm thickness, Rockwool SoundPro Flexi has a thermal
conductivity of 0.035W/mK.
Work on site - Handling and storage
Rockwool SoundPro Flexi Slabs are light and easy to cut to any shape
with a sharp knife. They are shrink wrapped in polyethylene for short
term protection. For long term protection they should be stored indoors
or under a waterproof covering.
Maintenance
Once installed Rockwool SoundPro Flexi needs no maintenance. Rockwool SoundPro Flexi is designed to provide the perfect friction fit between both
timber and metal framed systems. Its unique flexible edge allows the
product to be pushed into the space from one side and then simply let
go, springing back to fill the gap. Unlike rigid insulants, if the
timber stud contracts as a result of moisture content, Rockwool SoundPro Flexi will expand to fill the void, not drop out or leave vertical gaps.
